Fox Hunt

Sponsored By

The Hunt has begun !

Build your own radio receivers and antennas which can home in on the transmitter placed at a random strategic point in the college. The first team to find the transmitter is declared as the winner. A very sensitive radio receiver circuit and a very good antenna design would be the main competition criterion and mapping skills would also give the teams a edge.

Rules and Regulations

  1. Maximum of four people per team is allowed.
  2. Participants are permitted the use of readymade antennas as available commercially.
  3. Apart from the antenna, all other parts of the circuit must be designed and assembled by the participants   themselves. Direct use of any readymade circuitry is not permitted
  4. Use of ICs and local oscillators however is permitted as available commercially.
  5. Use of meters for current and voltage measurements only, is permitted.
  6. It is suggested to make use of the following:
      • A directional Antenna.
      • A signal strength indicator.
  7. Wide range RF gain control (attenuator), so that it is able to take readings in the vicinity of the transmitter.
  8. Teams may use alternative methods such as triangulation for the task.
  9. The power of the transmitter will be 1 W - 5 W

Problem Statement

Design a radio receiver and antenna which is capable of homing in and finding the location of a transmitter hidden in the college. The broadcast signal will be a 144 - 146 MHz beep signal. The power of the transmitter will be 1 Watt - 5 Watt
