Transforma

                       designing the future..!

Prizes worth Rs.24000 to be won.

Inventions, discoveries, what next?

Since his first invention of the wheel..the desire for innovations in man has never been fulfilled.

The desire continues in the new form - Transformations.

Transformation - a new discovery from the old inventions so that a single machine/appliance to do multiple tasks. So Transforma@Pragyan '08 makes a humble start to this whole new era of Transformation. We believe that the manual transformation is the first step towards fully automated transformation. Well people, Transforma is all about transforming a working model into other working model using the same parts.Take a sneak peak into the depths of Reverse Engineering.

Problem Statement

Build a working model that can be manually transformed into another working/non-working model satisfying the given conditions within the prescribed time.

eg: Air Cooler transformed to Washing Machine.

Transformations can be done in the fields electrical, electronics, mechanical, structural,  chemical,  etc.

Description : An air cooler can be transformed into a washing machine without further addition of parts, like

PARTS AIR COOLER WASHING MACHINE DIFFERENCE
Motor power power difference in rpm
Blowers produces air whirling motion usage
Body store water washing clothes purpose

Like wise all the parts differs in usage, purpose, etc., ultimately giving a new working model.

Rules and Regulations

  1. The participating team should have maximum of 4 members
  2. The team has to submit the abstract online as in the form mentioned.
  3. A qualification letter in the form of email will be sent to the team.
  4. They have to submit a working model transformable to the other working model.
  5. First they have to submit the working model for the jurisdiction.
  6. Then they will be given 5 hrs of time to transform to the second model.
  7. Transformation Conditions :
a)No VALID PARTS* must be added to the first model in any case.
b)Can remove maximum of 20% of his total valid parts. Points will be deducted as per the FORMULA* specified.
c)The removal and addition of TRASH* is allowed.
  8. Points will be deducted for the UNUSED PARTS* according to formula.
  9. The Unused parts in the second model are considered as excluded parts and evaluated as per same formula.
  10. The Usage of the model must differ among both the models.
  11. The winner will be declared based on the Judging Criteria.
  12. NO size constraints.
  13. Power Source/ Fuel : Any sort of power source can be used (More details will be given in the qualificationemail)
a)Use of gas cylinder, etc. is not allowed.
b)Use of petrol, diesel, kerosene or any other fuels must be priorly informed.
c)No constraints on DC power. But they have to bring their own DC source.
d)AC power of 230V will be provided.
e)No other power source will be provided.

Terms

  • VALID PARTS : All the parts other than TRASH are considered as Valid Parts.
  • TRASH : The following parts/stuff is considered to be TRASH (only if used for same purpose in both models):
    • nuts and bolts
    • small wires (used for circuits)
    • screws
    • plaster/gum/fevicol (only if used to stick something)
    • threads/winding wires (in small amounts)
    • and if anything else.. final decision is of event managers
  • UNUSED PARTS (U) : The parts included in the first model so as to use in the second model without actually functioning in the former are considered as Unused parts.
  • EXCLUDED PARTS (X) : The parts removed from the first model during transformation and the parts not functioning in the second model are considered as Excluded parts.
  • FORMULA : The following formula is used to calculate the Degree of Transformation (DOT).

    DOT = (4T - X - 3U)*100
      4N

    where,
T : No. of valid parts transformed for the second model(decided by event managers)
N : Total no. of valid parts used in the first model

Judging Criteria

The points will be awarded based on following criteria. The credits system will be followed.

  1. IDEA : To appreciate the creativity behind it.
  2. USAGE: The varied usage of the model is primary goal of TRANSFORMA. So it is the primary criteria.
  3. PURPOSE & FEASIBILITY : Implementation in the real time appliances or machines.
  4. WORKING OF PARTS: Variation of the working of involved parts is also rewarded.
  5. DEGREE OF TRANSFORMATION: The above formula gives the degree of transformation.

All the above criteria have the same weightage.

! Decision of the event managers is final.
