Dr Subramanian Swamy is a leading economist and an authority on Indo-China relations. Starting off in his father's footsteps as an economist, he pursued a Masters Degree at the prestigious Indian Statistical Institute. He was then offered a full scholarship for a doctoral degree by Harvard University.

He commenced what was to be a long & illustrious career at the Economics cell of the UN Secretariat. Harvard was so impressed with his work, that they followed it up by offering him a teaching position as an Assistant Professor of Economics there.He went on to become a Professor of Economics at IIT Delhi, and also later served on their Board of Governors. He continued thereafter to serve in many institutions of national and International repute and has also co-authored papers with Nobel Prize winning economists.

Dr. Swamy has served as a Cabinet Minister for Commerce, Law & Justice and has held the post of Chairman of the Commission on Labour Standards & International Trade. He was a member of the Planning Commission in 1990-1991, when the decisions to liberalise the Indian Economy were taken, leading to the phenomenal growth that we see today. The reorientation of India's foreign policy towards China from hostility to normalized relations is widely attributed by both countries to Dr.Swamy's untiring efforts in this direction. His efforts also led to China opening the Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet to Hindu pilgrims from India.

He lectures extensively on Indo - China Economics and has many papers on the same to his credit. Since 2001, he has been teaching Economics every summer at Harvard University.
