Off late the news thats making waves is the open contest for the "I am Linux" video developed to promote Linux in the lines of "I am Mac" and "I am PC".The task here is do design an eye-candy desktop for Linux. You are free to use icons, wallpapers, themes and utilities (like window managers, compiz, emerald) of your own choice. You can submit your submissions for any linux-distro and any desktop manager. You can find sample screenshots here (Download).
The submissions are to be done in the following format:
- Each team should create a documentation containing description of how the desktop was designed . The description should also have details about the online sources that the team had used to download the required components. The filename should be named as your "X_design.txt" where X is your team name. The description should be precise and brief.
- Each team should create two folders with the names "Design_1" and "Design_2" containing the screenshots (maximum of 10). The "Design_1" folder should contain the screenshots of the desktop that your team has designed with a wallpaper of your own choice. The "Design_2" folder should contain the same set of screenshots with the wallpaper given here (Download). Kindly note that for the purpose of evaluation , we will use the screenshots in "Design_1" folder and to authenticate that the design is your own work , we will use the screenshots in "Design_2" which has the wallpaper given by us.
- The screenshots should be in JPEG or PNG format and should be named as following . If your team name is "tuxventure", the screenshots should have been named as tuxventure1.jpg , tuxventure2.jpg and so on. Note that the screenshots in both the folders should highlight the same features of your design in the same order. (ie) the screenshot tuxventure3.jpg in both the Design_1 and Design_2 folders should be same except for the difference in the wallpaper used.
- Each team has to submit a zipped file containing the two folders and the design description on or before 15th February 23:59 hrs. The name of the file should be X_Desktop.tar.gz where X is the team name.
The evaluation will be based on the following factors:
- The eye-candy features of your desktop.
- Originality and creativity used.
- The documentation
