Event Format

Problem Statement

Make a wireless remote controlled machine, powered ONLY by an IC Engine that can complete a dirt track in least possible time.

Stages of the event

  • Abstract Submission
  • Inspection
  • Prelims
  • Final rounds

Conduction of each stage of the event

  1. Abstract Submission : - The abstract should include:
    • A maximum 2 page write up explaining their machine design. Font to be used is 11 and should be in doc or pdf format.
    • Photos of the chassis, steering and suspension system fabricated.
    Deadline: 6th February.
Note: The abstract is non-eliminative and is intended to give us an idea about the effort put in by the participants.

  2. Inspection : -
    • Participants report to the venue with their machines.
    • Strict inspection of the machine is carried out according to the guidelines & regulations set by the organizers.
    • All selected teams will be given practice slots of 15 minutes each, after the inspection is completed.

  3. Prelims : -
    • All selected teams will now have to compete in a time trail.
    • Each team will be given a run of 2 individual laps & the best lap time will be considered.
    • From here the top 12 teams qualify for the Final Rounds

  4. Final Rounds : -
    • This will be primarily a knock out round.
    • The top 4 teams automatically qualify for the quarters.
    • Teams placed 5th -12th have a head to head knock out race to determine 4 other quarter finalists.
    • Next head to head knock out races are held to determine the winner
Rules & Regulations

Track Specifications

  • The race track will be a dirt track with left & right turns, hairpins, S-shaped curves and some bumps and puddles.
  • Two machines will race on a single lane track at a time.
  • Participants are advised to use proper suspension for their machines to endure the bumps.
  • Details about the track will be updated soon.
  • A lap is deemed to be completed when the machine completes the entire track & comes back to the starting point.

Technical Specifications

1.  Engine:

  • Maximum piston displacement allowed is 3.5 cc.
  • There is no restriction on the type of IC engine (either glow or diesel cycle engine), but the engine must have throttle control.

2.  Fuel:

  • The percentage of nitro methane should not exceed 20% by volume in the fuel.

3.  Vehicle dimensions:

  • The completed machine should be able to fit in a box of dimensions 700mmX400mmX400mm
  • Antennae (if used) are exempt from the height restriction.

4.  Parts that are to be fabricated by the participants:

  •  The chassis.
  •  Suspensions system.
  •  Steering mechanism.
  •  Platform/Casing for the electronics, engines and fuel tank.

5.  Parts which can be directly procured from the market:

  • Gear box assembly, Differentials (if used)
  • Suspension springs, Shock absorbers
  • Drive-line and rods
  • Tires and wheels
  • Clutch system
  • Brake system
  • Engine
  • Carburetor
  • Servo Motors

6.  Power supply:

  • The machine must have an on-board power supply to provide power to any mechanism requiring electric power not exceeding 12V.

7.  Radio controllers:

  • The machine has to be necessarily controlled by a wireless remote control system.
  • Note that participants are required to bring 2 remote controls of distinct frequencies or a dual- frequency remote control. Note: - Participants are advised to provide proper suspension so that their vehicle can endure the dirt track.

Note : -  Participants are advised to provide proper suspension so that their vehicle can endure the dirt track.

Control Space

An elevated podium will be provided for the control of the machine. The podium will ensure good visibility for the controller

Team Specifications

A team can consist of a maximum of 5 members. Students from different educational institutes can form a team.

Eligibility

FAQ
  • What is the eligibility to participate in Nittro’09?
All students with a valid identity card of their respective educational institutes are eligible to participate in Nittro’09 at Pragyan’09.
  • Can students from different educational institutes form a team?
Students from different colleges are allowed to form a team.
  • Will all the teams get a certificate of participation?
All shortlisted teams (based on the abstract and videos) which come to participate in the event will be given participation certificate.
  • What is the maximum number of participants in a group?
The maximum limit of participants per team is 5.
  • Is remote control included in measuring the dimension of the machine?
No. The external wireless remote control used to control the machine is not included in this size constraint.
  • What will be the preliminary round?
In the prelims round each team will be given a run of 2 individual laps & the best lap time will be considered. At the end of the elimination round top teams will be selected according to their qualifying time and then they will be playing head to head knock out races.
  • Do all the participants need to submit their videos and abstract?
Yes all participants need to send in their abstract and videos. Also you must send in close up photos of your empty chassis, steering system and suspension system. The video and abstract enables the organizers to make sure that you are putting in effort to make the car so even if your car is not complete do send in the abstracts. Also it helps us to make sure that ready made cars are not entertained.
  • What parts have to be fabricated by the participants?
