Jagriti

"There is more to life than increasing speed."

-Mahatma Gandhi

Technological progress is good. Innovative technological progress is better. But progress with social significance surpasses all. We at NIT Trichy believe in just that, which is why Pragyan 2010 brings you ‘Jagriti’, an amalgamation of technical acumen and social conscience, aiming to be a forum for young minds to come up with innovative solutions for problems around us. Ideas presented at ‘Jagriti’ will find their way into the hearts of students, technocrats, corporates and decision-makers, as they unite to realize the ultimate goal of serving the society.

Jagriti will consist of 3 phases:

EXHIBITION OF SOCIALLY RELEVANT PROJECTS:

The main attraction of JAGRITI, it will showcase a number of projects having social relevance. A technical idea will require displaying a prototype. We are not restricting the participation by making it technical; instead people from any stream can participate provided they have brilliant ideas for social awareness or policies which can be implemented successfully. Nonetheless this has to be communicated through a poster or a suitable power-point presentation. It is proposed to be a one day event. Socially relevant ideas include minimising energy usage, sustainable living, awareness on diseases, minimising crime, rural development etc. Prizes will be awarded based on the effectiveness, innovativeness and the necessity of the idea. Necessity meaning how immediately can the proposed solution address the social problems.

ON-THE-SPOT IDEA BRIEFING COMPETITION:

This is an on spot event for all participants of Pragyan. A central theme will be given in the morning on each day and we expect an idea with a small brief with respect to the following two points:

  • Economic feasibility
  • Why do you think the idea should be implemented

All these ideas will be collected and at the end of the day one winner will be announced.

SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS FOR A GIVEN PROBLEM:

This will be again a one day event comprising of two rounds. First round will be a social quiz: new to its kind. Based on the number of participants the teams for the second round will be selected. They will be given a landscape and an economic consideration. Using this they will have to develop a energy-sustainable model for that location. Usual ideas of installing a wind mill, solar photo-voltaic will not be encouraged much (unless no other option is available). We are looking out for innovative (even though crude) ideas.
