Ramesh Chandra Jain is an esteemed academician, entrepreneur and research scientist.
Dr Jain is currently at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) as the first Bren Professor in Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences in 2005. He comes to UCI from the Georgia Institute of Technology where he held the Distinguished Chair in Embedded Experiential Systems and was named a GRA Eminent Scholar. At Georgia Tech, he founded the Experiential Systems Group, his fourth significant research laboratory. While professor of computer science and engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and the University of California, San Diego, he founded and directed artificial intelligence and visual computing labs.
He was also the founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Multimedia magazine and Machine Vision and Applications journal and serves on the editorial boards of several magazines in multimedia, business and image and vision processing. He has co-authored more than 250 research papers in well-respected journals and conference proceedings.
Not one to be content with life as an academic, the entrepreneur in him has been equally active. He founded three companies, managed them in initial stages, and then turned them over to professional management.
The multifaceted personality that he is, he is actively involved with industry as well as academia and enjoys writing. He is an avid blogger and shares his research and technical ideas on his blog. His current research is in experiential systems and their applications.He represents the peak in academic pursuits, and would lend an air of wisdom to the Crossfire panel.
