A number of people die every year due to flood in different parts of our country.

 

Here we are considering flood plains of Bihar, which is annually hit by Kosi Flood washing away thousands of lives and shelters.

 

What we can contribute to our nation for this with Architecture?

 

A small vision to try providing such places houses which can be also used efficiently when the place gets suddenly flooded. To make such places livable and save lives during such natural disaster.

 

Objective

 

Evolve a community of suitable houses out of their spaces that can take up in a natural disaster FLOOD without fail.

  • Each house should have the following requirements:

     

    • Entry space and a small outdoor interaction space.
       
    • A multipurpose room.
       
    • A cooking cum dining area
       
    • Toilet and bath cubicles
       

     
  • Minimum of 100 numbers of such houses should be there in a community.
     
  • Design demands:

     

    • Sustainability of design
       
    • Flexibility of design
       
    • Cost Effective design
       
    • Stability of structure
       

# Site selection is to be from the flood plains of BIHAR.

 

  • A maximum of 03 students per team is allowed.
     
  • Students should submit the copy of their College ID Cards along with their entries on and before the last date mentioned.
     
  • Pragyan logo:

     

    • Pragyan logo can be downloaded from here.
       
    • All Presentation sheets should have Pragyan logo (Dimension: 2cm x3 cm) on it.
       
    • Entries without correct logo on report and presentation sheets will be disqualified.
       
  • Any assumptions made in design process (such as family size, flood level etc.) should be clearly mentioned and justified.
     
  • Shortlisted teams will have to come for presentation at PRAGYAN 2012, NIT Trichy
     

 

Submission requirements

 

  • Report of maximum 3 A4 sheets
     
  • Presentation sheets (explaining site, concept, design approach and design) of maximum 4 A2 sheets
     
  • Submission to be sent to – Formula: 0 and Formula: 1
     

During the final presentation, the participant will be judged on the following criteria.
 

  • Innovation in concept evolution (40%)
     
  • Sensitivity to village life and dealing of flood situation (20%)
     
  • Depth of detailing out the concept (40%)
     

Timelines

Last date for submitting Report, presentation sheets and scanned copy of registration form : 12th February 2012
