Any ideas what that thing is? No points for guessing, but kudos if you got it right!

It’s the Large hadron Collider’s CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) experiment Tracker Outer Barrel (TOB) in the cleaning room at CERN. The CMS is one of two general-purpose LHC experiments designed to explore the physics of the Terascale, the energy region where physicists believe they will find answers to the central questions at the heart of 21st-century particle physics. The Large Hadron Collider was scheduled to be up and running by the end of 2008, but electrical difficulties have set the date back to summer of 2009.

The team, participants and audience at Pragyan target only the very best and operate at the cutting edge of science. Pragyan ’08 had Dr. Philippe Lebrun as one of the guest lecture speakers. He is the Head of the Accelerator Technology (AT) department at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research).

Guest lectures are one of the highlights of any edition of Pragyan. Be sure to keep checking our website for updates on our guest speakers! There’s sure to be some really cool, high tech stuff you can look forward to.
