From the DeltaT Team:

Financial meltdown – that’s the one thing on all of our lips now. Experts are speculating a depression. No one knows what’s going to happen next. Besides this, Jayalalitha wants to be the next PM, Bush wants to spend the rest of his life making coffee for Laura, Obama’s wondering which dog to buy. Well, there are indeed an enough number of issues to keep us gabbing! But, the climate crisis – I don’t know why it is not even hashed out, let alone action. Philip Cooney, a lawyer with no scientific training, is in the White House to control climate science. I guess the guys sitting at the top there have their ears too full to recognize the distant death toll, darling carbon dioxide and its friends are raising.

We just got to STOP burning those fuels that electric power to everyday commutation breathes in. Freon which created so much furor when discovered is making a hole in the ozone. But can all this lead us to sacrifice indispensables like say a refrigerator?? This is exactly the question we want to start answering with Delta T @ Pragyan in NIT Trichy this year.

Dear fellow engineers, let’s get to square one to try solving this threatening situation. Wrack your brains for a simple unit to cool water without the use of electricity. Who knows, we may jus be embarking on a saving the world mission !!

Ripped straight outta science fiction, what you see above is the WAM-V or Wave Adaptive Modular Vessel. Capable of travelling up to 5,000 miles and controllable by just two crew members! The WAM-V is powered by twin diesel engines and according to its designers can ‘dance’ over waves. Going by how it looks, I’m pretty sure it can!

Apparently this thing can be used as a luxury cruiser, emergency response unit or even a passenger ship holding up to 12 people. It doesn’t stop there; because of the way it’s powered, it uses ‘significantly less’ fuel than other boats.
