Droid O

With the fast paced revolution of smart phones in the market, the Android is now the fastest growing smart phone OS, with over 100 million devices activated and with 400,000 users being added every day. Tech junkies are fixated with the Android, which is used on a wide range of devices from tablets to netbooks. However, this OS is still a fresh technology with much scope for expansion. At this juncture, Pragyan brings to you an event which gives you the opportunity to develop your own Android apps. A huge market potential is also available for the created apps, what with Google making paid apps available in India.  The app need not pass through strict regulation norms to get listed in the market.

Droid O allows participants to create apps on Windows, Mac or Linux using Java programming language in conjunction with the Android SDK. It tests the functionality and ingenuity of the created app.  As there is no specific category for submissions, participants are urged to be innovative and creative in the creation of their app. Droid provides a great opportunity for college students to gain hands on experience working with Java in the development of real time apps. Gear up – Think it; app it!

  • The event requires the interested teams/individuals to create an app for the Android OS for mobiles(tablets and netbooks versions are not recommended).

  • The participants are required to create an app using the CLI(Command Line Interface).

  • The .apk file has to be submitted on or before 25th February 2012. The source code is to be submitted along with the application.

  • The .apk file and the source code must be put into a zip archive and mailed to Formula: 0 with the team name in the subject line

  • The purpose of the app is left to the desire of the participants.

  • The criteria for judging are also left to the panel of judges. However,

    • Intuitive interface

    • Creativity and practical use of the app

    • Compatibility with older Android versions and mid – range offerings etc

will also play an important role in judging.

  • The winners will be announced during the fest.

  • Participants can be disqualified without prior notice if the judges doubt the authenticity of the app submitted.

  • Google App Inventor is strictly prohibited.

  • The decision of the panel of judges is final and binding.

  • Real world testing will also be done.

  • The developers are advised to avoid creating apps that require su(super user) access privileges.
