Archana Sharma

The only Indian scientist with a name on the CERN directory, Archana Sharma completed her Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from the University of Delhi and her D.Sc from the University of Geneva.

She has worked on instrumentation, installation and commissioning of the CMS experiment, and is currently working on designing detectors for upgrades to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC, a particle accelerator or “atom smasher" that propels subatomic particles called hadrons at high speeds). Drawing inspiration from women who worked through adversities and did pioneering work, Dr Sharma is now a role model herself for budding Indian scientists. A proponent of staying curious, she advocates the importance of respecting the teaching profession as well as focussing on education for learning instead of earning. The Nuclear Physicist endeavours to bring her curiosity to the infinitely complex and ignite our minds. Don't miss her guest lecture this Pragyan.
