EVENT DESCRIPTION:-

Hydro pushes your knowledge of the Pascal’s Law to its limits. It requires you to design a hydraulic arm without the use of electronics to conquer the given challenges.

Date: 3rd March 2018

Time: 10AM to 5PM

Venue: Orion G9, G10

 

FORMAT:-

i) Abstract submission :-

The participants must submit an abstract, explaining their model completely. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 18th February.

ii) Testing rounds :-

1. Round 1 :- This round will mark the end of the road for many teams. 12-15 teams will be selected for the next round.

2.Round 2 :- Participants will be judged based on their overall knowledge of the functioning of their arm. From this round, 6 teams will advance to the final round.

3.Round 3 :-  This round will be the last one to be conducted for the event and will decide the winners of the event.

 

JUDGING CRITERIA :-

1) Round 1:- Pick and Place Round

a. Time taken to place the boxes into the slots.

b. Negative points for placing a box into wrong slot.

2)Round 2:- Catapult Round (Boxes in 3 rows)

a. Hitting the object placed on the top:15 points

b. If the ball hits the boxes that constitute the tower, points marked for each box will be awarded.

3)Round 3:- Football Round

a. Each goal scored will be awarded with 10 points.

b. If no goals are scored against a team while it defends, the defending team gets a 5 point as bonus. This is not applicable if no goal are scored in the match.

PROBLEM STATEMENT :-

To design and fabricate a hydraulically actuated arm  which can pick and place objects and complete the given task when subjected to the given conditions.

1. Who can participate in this event?

 -Students from any college can participate in  this event.

2.How many members can a team have?

-Minimum of 2 participants and a maximum of 3

3.I have graduated from college and am not currently a student. Can I participate in the event?

-No. Only those having a valid pragyan ID card can participate in the event. ID cards will be given to college students only.

4.Is this event open only to mechanical engineers?

- No. It is open to all branches because it is purely a science event.

5.Do we have to pay a registration fee?

- No. Registration is free of cost.

6.Do we get a certificate for participation?

-No

7.Is there any size limit for abstract?

-Yes, the document submitted should be less than 1MB. Also, it should contain the name of the participants.

RULES :-

  • A team can have a maximum of 3 members.

  • Height of the bot should not exceed 50cm (for 1 degree of freedom).

  • The various joints of the arm must be actuated hydraulically and manually operated.

  • The moving parts of the arm cannot house the control mechanism.

  • Choice of materials, is left to the participants.

  • No part of the arm should cross the demarcating line before the commencement of the event.

  • Judges' and event coordinators' decisions are final and binding on all participants.
