Building Design and Analysis

Structural engineering deals with the analysis and design of structures. It helps engineers understand the behavior of a structure when subjected to varied loads, thus enabling them to design an according efficient structure. The design of tall buildings essentially involves conceptual design, approximate analysis, preliminary design and optimization to safely carry different loads acting on the structure. The structural design for a skyscraper must ensure that the building -

  • Is able to stand upright safely,

  • Functions without excessive deflections or movements which may cause fatigue of structural elements,

  • Does not undergo excessive cracking or failure of fixtures, fittings or partitions, or

  • Does not actively make the occupants uncomfortable.

Morning Session:

1. Professional Architectural Careers, Office Practice, And Opportunities

Career opportunities available to a student who has mastered the skills

• Identification of the responsibilities of both the beginning and the experienced drafter.

• Differentiation between the different roles and responsibilities of the designer, architect, interior designer, and urban planner.
